When I was a kid, I used to always play with the iridescent gloss of my Blink-182 CDs (no shame) by bouncing light off the discs to refract a rainbow onto my bedroom walls. The architects of Bignatov Studios, a Bulgarian and NY-based team focusing on mobile architecture, must have done the same, as their community art project in Varna, Bulgaria, Mirror Culture, suspended 6,000 compact discs on a specialized fishing net to turn the entrance of Seaside Garden into a grand light wall.The project recycled old electronics as part of Varna's bid to become the European Capital of Culture in 2019. It has seen over 50,000 visitors since debuting this past summer, and Varna subsequently made it past the pre-selection phase of the bidding process.This is a beautiful example of not just recyclable art, but that CDs still have a use-function in 2014. We want to make something similar for our office—now if only we could find those old Blink-182 albums…
