A Real-time Dance Performance Interacting With Intricate Projection Mapping

British performer a dandypunk’s adventures with The Alchemy of Light.

If you think projection mapping is now so widespread that people are running out of ways to innovate with it, then you haven’t seen what a dandypunk does with it. The performer used projections to create the above video, The Alchemy of Light, in which he uses projections as props and animated beings to interact with, combining the changing environment with his acrobatic dance moves.

a dandypunk is the stage name of Joel Sebastian, a British performer who worked with Cirque du Soleil. In The Alchemy of Light, the starting point is an imaginary book that shares its title with the video. Once he opens it, it spews out the adventures within, sending him on a whirlwind ride animated by light.
