A Virtual Reality Experiment About Nothing: Explore The 'Seinfeld' Set With Oculus Rift

Now you can pull a Kramer and bust into Jerry's apartment... well, sort of.

We've always imagined what it would be like to hang out with Jerry, Kramer, Elaine, and George in the infamous Manhattan aparment that we've seen on TV again and again for 180 episodes. To pull a Kramer, and bust through Seinfeld's door to grab a sandwich, or just lounge out the infamous blue couch and talk about nothing with George, would make our neurotic dreams come true.

One (huge) Seinfeld fan has brought us closer to the Seinfeld world than ever before with Jerry's Place VR, an experiment with Oculus Rift that re-creates Jerry Seinfeld's infamous apartment in its entirety using virtual reality and 3D-modeling.

Believe it or not, @Seinfeld2000 is not the man behind this impressive work of fan art. Greg Miller, a graphic designer, artist, and coder spent an entire month using 3D-modeling system, Blender, and the Unity game engine—which makes Oculus Rift virtual reality goggles compatible with the modeling—before bringing this apartment to 3D fruition. The "apartment" can still be explored without goggles, too.

On the Jerry's Place VR website, Miller explained that he re-created Jerry's room by "screen-capping streaming episodes" so he could get detailed images of various set pieces. He tried to be as faithful to the show as possible and find real images of the products used in the set before modeling around those products' dimensions.

The result is one of the most forward-thinking fan art experiments. Miller supposeldy hid eleven easter eggs throughout the environment that nod to various episodes. We haven't found any yet, but we wouldn't be surprised if we found some leftover pudding skins from George or even a contraceptive sponge stash from Elaine.
