Art Insta of the Week: Inside Philippe Parreno's 'H {N)Y P N(Y} OSIS'

Dazzling lights and sounds fill the Park Avenue Armory at French installation artist Philippe Parreno's biggest exhibit in the US (thus far), H {N)Y P N(Y} OSIS (pronounced "hypnosis"), an amalgam of his own and complementary artworks co-curated by Hans-Ulrich Obrist and Alex Poots, with consulting curator Tom Eccles. Yesterday, Instagram user whenisawyoursmile captured a scene that looks like Broadway distilled down to fit Parreno's bare-bones light art: energetic piano notes cascade throug the air and marquees suspended from the 85-foot ceiling of the Armory's 55,000 square-foot drill hall which, the artist tells Wallpaper, is intended "to seem animated by the city, as if the locale is trying to communicate directly with you, to take over." Earning the cover of Wallpaper Magazine's July issue, a 2,000-word feature in the New York Times, and glowing reviews from ArtNet, Hyperallergic, and more, H {N)Y P N(Y} OSIS kicks off the summer art season by making big waves.
