Attack Of The Clones: 3D Printed Vanity Dolls

Immortalize yourself in the creepiest way possible.

Holy. Hell. Uncanny valley just caved in on humanity with this where-else-but-Japan’s human doll cloning. Like Star Wars? Want to see yourself in an Imperial Stormtrooper outfit? Now you can. Danny Choo, who works in Tokyo running a web and TV production company writes about how he came across Clone Factory in Akihabara (no doubt located in the depths of Japan’s uncanny valley), and got a figure of himself made. He also filmed the ordeal for his TV show, Culture Japan.

You basically sit in a chair surrounded by digital SLRs and lighting, like some kind of trapped animal, while your image is stolen by malignant spirits (or something like that). The data is then processed by a computer and a 3D model created before being printed using additive manufacturing. Your cloned head is then prepared and a few days later, it’s ready to be attached to whatever body you want. Danny Choo’s got put on a Stormtrooper.

Here’s the company’s website, in case you’re visiting Japan and fancy getting a figure (or a whole toy army) made to haunt you for the rest of your days.
