This Auction Offers a Look into Icons' Inner Lives

We’re sentimental creatures. Even though we know that, say, a pen used by one of our idols is still just a pen, many of us can’t shake the feeling that the greatness of great people might in some way rub off on their belongings. And by transference we hope, by owning those belongings, perhaps a little greatness might rub off on us, too. If you’re someone who’s fascinated by legends and their possessions, perhaps you’ll place a bid at Hasbeens and Willbees’ The Five Easy Pieces auction. The auction platform, co-founded by former fashion designer Kai Kuhne, will be offering 5 personal items from each of 34 visionaries, ranging from fashion designer Dame Vivienne Westwood, to singer-songwriter Roisin Murphy, to art blogger Colby Keller, whom Mic once declared “the world’s most intellectual pornstar." "The commonality linking all of the consignors involved is their strong character and sense of wisdom,” writes the auction house.

According to Hasbeens and Willbees, the auction, which is presented in collaboration with Mount Gay Rum, “will function like an exhibition, giving a glimpse into the inspirational products and ideas that influence the consignors involved.” So if you’d like to own one of Julian Assange’s shirts, or a “slightly used” branding iron of Colby Keller’s initials, you can attend the live auction on December 14th at New York’s Robert Miller Gallery, or place your bids online.
