Beautiful Short Film Shot Using A 3D Scanner

The streets of Barcelona become an eerie “old tourist movie from the future”.

Looking like some kind of digital noir flick made by melancholic machines from the future, this short film Alley Posts was shot on the streets of Barcelona using a 3D scanner. Coming from Creator James George, leader of the Antagonistic Applications team that gave us the Freefall Highscore iPhone app—George describes the short as “an old tourist movie from the future.”

Forms flitter in and out of the darkness as the morose soundtrack, “Ionoscan” by Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto, creates a sense of foreboding and the cityscape becomes a surreal journey of ghostly shadows that morph into one another. The film’s proof that sometimes, to make an emotive and engrossing film, a simple idea—and a portable 3D scanner—are all that you need.
