Black Dice Animates Animal Collective's New Dream Cave Set Design
Photos by Brayden Olson.
Last night, Animal Collective melted our faces off at their benefit show for Celebrate Brooklyn’s concert series. The band played in their own neon cavern, among giant glowing crystals, strings of fluorescent orange bats, and tin foil stalactites. Designed by a creative team led by Abby Portner, the psychedelic chamber incorporated visuals from Black Dice who conceived the jumbo-sized visual and display screens for the band’s Coachella set. In one of Animal Collective’s biggest shows to date, Black Dice created a 70-minute visual called Jumbletron that illuminated three giant cubes hanging above the band as they played. You can learn more about the collaboration and Black Dice’s creative process in the video below. Check out their new stage design in the photo set above. You gotta hand it to Animal Collective, just when you think they’ve reached their psychedelic peak, their visual style keeps getting weirder and wilder.
