"Body Architect" Lucy McRae Directs A Synchronized Swimming-Inspired Music Video

McRae crafts an organically quirky music video for Rat Vs Possum’s “Fat Monk.”

The self-proclaimed “body architect” Lucy McRae has contributed her architectural talents to such artists as Robyn, but is finally making her debut as director. The music video “Fat Monk” by Rat vs Possum narrates a playful multi-body kaleidoscope. Exploiting the notion of movement, shapes, and color, the choreographed dance clip undoubtedly reveals McRae's experience as a trained classical ballerina and architect.

McRae, who previously collaborated with Creators Mary Fagot & Robyn to produce Robyn’s Body Talk album covers, is known for her talent to colorfully mix the worlds of fashion, technology, and the body.

The Australian artist approached experimental pop group Rat vs Possum to discuss the possibility of creating a project that entailed working alongside 20 of Melbourne’s RMIT University top design students. The resulting video, above, is part of McRae’s school concept, which seeks to provide students with the opportunity to work directly under industry professionals. With much success, McRae hopes to repeat this framework with educational institutions worldwide, providing a new, sensible learning approach for students in creative fields.
