Brain Farm Combines A Cineflex Camera With A Drone

See, drones aren’t always about killing and flying around in menacing swarms.

Brain Farm is known for their incredible cinematography, capturing extreme sport maniacs and sublime natural landscapes using state-of-the-art equipment. Often bespoke, it allows them to capture high-end images from places no human could get to unaided—and often on their list of never-leave-home-without-its is the Cineflex camera, a gyro-stabilized camera that can be attached to a helicopter to record aerial footage.

But now they’ve done away with the manned helicopter and, with the help of Austrian unmanned aerial vehicle experts Schiebel, have created this beast of recording equipment which combines a drone with the Cineflex camera system to give you a flying heli-camera that looks like the helicopter from Airwolf.

The Schiebel Camcopter S-100 UAV is usually used for surveillance and border control, but not this time. This time, it’s being used to create a hybrid camera that can be controlled by navigating pre-programmed GPS waypoints or piloted using a control unit. “I think the integration of the Camcopter S-100 and the Cineflex will be the game-changer for stabilized cinematography.” says Curt Morgan in the video. Yup.
