CGI Timelapse Turns Barcelona Into An Abandoned Metropolis

Evaristo Francés's "N O P E O P L E" offers a tour of the city, minus the people who inhabit it.

If "Hell is other people," as Jean-Paul Sartre iconically claims in No Exit, then Evaristo Francés has created the equivalent of Paradise on Earth in N O P E O P L E, a timelapse that captures Barcelona sans-humanity. Published through his myLapse Vimeo channel, Francés creates scenes of "busy" intersections without the traffic and public transit stations without the public—just the soothing escape we need from our NYC commuter lifestyle.

The time-intensive post-production process of removing every road-raging SUV driver and miserable metro passenger must have been a huge effort on Francés' part—but we're willing to accept that sacrifice for these four and a half minutes of urban tranquility.
