Chris Milk And Arcade Fire Continue To "Wake Up" The Coachella Crowd Online

For all the lucky fans that caught Arcade Fire’s Saturday night set at Coachella this year, you watched as cascades of LED beachballs were released into the crowd during the band’s encore performance of “Wake Up.”

Director Chris Milk (who the band previously worked with on “The Wilderness Downtown”) spawned the idea for the surprise ball drop and interactive visual performance, and with the help of ESKI and Moment Factory, was able to control the LEDs and IR transmitters to light paint kaleidoscopic patterns all over the unsuspecting crowd. See a brief teaser of Arcade Fire and Chris Milk’s collaboration here, and stay tuned for more videos on their creative process.

If you or one of your friends was lucky enough to snag a ball (and could manage to bring it home), you’re in luck because their installation Summer Into Dust lives on online, and we need your help!

We want to know what happened to your ball. How did you get it home? Where do you store it? Do you have plans to recreate or turn your ball into a completely new work of art?

We’re currently collecting photos, videos, and stories about people’s experiences with the balls. What do we plan to do with them? You’ll just have to wait and see… To be included, email your photos, videos, and stories to summerintodust@thecreatorsproject.com, making sure to include your name, address, and contact information.

Visit the Summer Into Dust website where we’ll frequently be posting info on new ways to keep updating your ball—we’ve just posted directions on how to change your battery.

In the meantime, check out some of the illuminating (and hilarious) footage of the balls we’ve found so far…

It’s raining LED beachballs in the moshpit.

Even if you do eventually run into a fence and fall on the ground, your beachball will still have your back.

Glowing beachball really stands out on the drive home.
