Christmas Trees of the Future [Video]

1024 Architecture create a futuristic holiday installation in a tiny, remote French village.

The small village of Guebwiller, located on the “wine path” in north-eastern France, hosts the all-too-familiar spectacle of a lit-up Christmas tree during the holiday season. But unlike say, Rockefeller Center’s display, 1024 Architecture’s interpretation uses metallic scaffolding as branches and is augmented with lights, sounds, and visuals. The Abies Electronicus (Latin for “electronic fir”) will be illuminated on weekends until December 24th, and is the follow-up to last year’s Blue Xmas / aka Noel Bleu (below) which was projected onto the Notre Dame Church in Guebwiller. See more pictures on 1024’s blog.

It’s true that nothing beats the smell of a traditional fir tree, but that’s what candles are for, right?
