Clear, Glass Headphones Offer A New Way To Hear Music

These sleek devices could change the world of audio tech.

It's an unfortunate reality of contemporary audio technology that the distancing effect caused by ear-covering headphones and ear canal-blocking earbuds keeps us from forgetting we're wearing them, and prevents us from fully immersing ourselves in our increasingly transhuman lifestyles. One enterprising ECAL student sought to change that, so change it he did.

These clear headphones, designed by Renaud Defrancesco, might be the answer to our qualms: instead of using speakers that project sounds into the ears, the acrylic glass headband allows vibrations to travel from an electromagnet at its crest, down into the wearer's ears. The new technology, known as Vibso, allows users to share music by simply allowing others to put their ears against it, and prevents the sort of sound-spill that earns you all those dirty looks on airplaines.

The clear beauties will finally allow couples to share tunes without having one ear exposed. Sharing music has never looked this sleek.

While there's no word yet on when these futuristic devices will become commercially available, if the buzz behind ECAL's simply effective past releases is any indication, we're already looking to hock our heavy noise-cancelling headphones.
