Creators Remix Roundup: Diplo, Fool's Gold, And Matthew Herbert
Our Creators are a talented and prolific bunch, and our inbox is always overflowing with alerts of new remixes and mashups from the incredible DJs and producers in our line-up. We just couldn’t keep these fresh new tunes to ourselves because, after all, filesharing is caring. Here are our top picks from the past week.
And just when we were wondering where Diplo‘s been these past few weeks, he’s back with a new track, “Set It Off,” featuring new-ish electronic collaboration Lazerdisk Party Sex aka Pres and ZJ. Though the vocalist seems to have had one too many huffs of helium, the track sounds drippy and texturized. At its chiller parts, its almost as if you were listening submerged underwater in a pool overlooking a desolate beach. Lazerdisk Party Sex bopping around performing in matching Darth Vader masks, will bring you right back to reality, just as Diplo turns up that moombahton March. Major lazer.
We first heard of Norwegian songstress Mr. Little Jeans aka Monica Birkenes when she remixed Arcade Fire’s “The Suburbs.” This time Fool’s Gold puts their turntables on Little Jeans’ “Runaway,” who up the track’s dance factor by adding synthesized claps and subtle upbeat effects that render the song much more pop than its predecessor.
We can’t really tell what genre buzzy UK-based artist Rowdy Superstar falls into, but we’d place him somewhere in between distorted electro and psychedelic rap. “Look Into The Light” is off Rowdy’s upcoming album bATTERY, produced by fellow UK eccentric Matthew Herbert. Herbert takes a darker twist on Rowdy’s already harsh output, but this bizarre collaboration is what makes the most sense.
