Creators Remix Roundup: G-Dragon, Spank Rock, And Robyn
Our Creators are a talented and prolific bunch, and our inbox is always overflowing with alerts of new remixes and mashups from the incredible DJs and producers in our line-up. We just couldn’t keep these fresh new tunes to ourselves because, after all, filesharing is caring. Here are our top picks from the past week.
Big Bang: “Fantastic Baby”
Leave it to Korean boy band Big Bang, led by frontman G-Dragon, to continually floor us with their over the top music video spectacles. Enter their post-apocalyptic world, where the band is staging an end-of-the world fashion show-cum-dance party. Color your eyebrows, checkerboard your lips, chain yourself up, and get down with the Storm Trooper-masked military. “Fantastic Baby” is off their new Japanese album Alive, out today, along with the Boys Noize-produced track “Feeling.” Boom Shakalaka.
Headed up by former Spank Rock producer XXXCHANGE, Win Win‘s “Pop A Gumball” finally gets a music video starring Spank Rock, Andrew W.K., and Matt Sweeney. The song shows a whole new side of Spank Rock, whose monumental vocals we’re not used to hearing like this. W.K. and Sweeney give a deranged and maniacal backup, creating a chilling atmosphere balanced out by smooth production. The juxtaposition of song against video makes for an interesting tangle of vibes that’s a win win.
Toronto-based beat makers AZARI & III transform Robyn‘s sugary pop song “Call Your Girlfriend” into an echoey body thrasher with clashes of dark synths and reverberations that completely mask the original. As clips from the hook and refrain are chopped into the remix, we’ve got to give AZARI & III props for making the popstar sound even more badass.
