Creators Remix Roundup: Gang Gang Dance, Robyn, CSS, Mark Ronson And A-Trak

Our Creators are a talented and prolific bunch, and our inbox is always overflowing with alerts of new remixes and mashups from the incredible DJs and producers in our line-up. We just couldn't keep these fresh new tunes to ourselves because, after all, filesharing is caring. Here are our top picks from the past week.

Gang Gang Dance: “Chinese High” (DJ Gg Netter remix)

The highly elusive DJ Gg, rumored to be an up-and-coming New York-based DJ/producer (without any obvious website), puts his spin on Gang Gang Dance‘s “Chinese High.” He opens with a beachy Puerto Rican drumline overlaid with glitchy synths. He also diminishes the track’s oriental vibe, taking Lizzy’s high-pitched undulating voice, turning her erratic vocals into an additional beat. He revs up the end with groovy-sounding synths, which we didn’t think was possible. We’re usually a pretty big fan of whatever Gang Gang Dance conjures up on their own, but in this case, we prefer the remix.

Robyn: “Call Your Girlfriend” (Erato remix)

Erato is a 10-person all girl group hailing from Sweden. Three of their members Ebba Lovisa Andersson, Amanda Wikström and Petra Brohäll, casually sit around a kitchen table and sing a gorgeous, crystal clear a cappella version of Robyn’s “Call Your Girlfriend.” Their lovely harmony is accentuated by a hand clap cup routine, which brings back fond memories of mess hall antics at summer camp—though the songs were much different.

Erykah Badu, Trombone Shorty and Most Def: “A La Modeliste” (prod. by Mark Ronson)

If Mark Ronson has proved anything with his rotating cast of all star musicians in the Business Intl., it’s that he has a keen eye for picking out exemplary collaborators. For the RE:GENERATION music project, which is an experiment in re-imagining five traditional styles of music, Ronson is paired up with the “Queen of Neo-Soul” Erykah Badu, New Orleans-based Trombone Shorty and MC Mos Def to churn out the jazzy tune “A La Modeliste.” Ronson also brings on a few members of (frequent collaborators) the Dap Kings and Zigaboo Modeliste to round out the flavorful and highly-listenable track.

CSS: “City Grrrl” (The Teeth remix)

Philly-based rockers The Teeth take Brazilian pop group CSS‘s dubstep-y trumpet tooting jam “City Grrrl” and give it a hard rock makeover (black lipstick and all). It’s less hyperactive and more drone-y, which is definitely a new way to listen to CSS. The remix video features the Longboard Girls Crew. Get into the groooooove city girls.

Yeah Yeah Yeah‘s: “Heads Will Roll” (A-Trak remix)

So technically this A-Trak remix is from last year, but the video remix by Weirdcore was just recently uploaded to Vimeo, and proves to be a visual treat and calculated complement to the musical talent at hand. We haven’t heard too much from the Yeah Yeah Yeah‘s (as a collective unit) lately, but if you’ve not seen the trailer for Karen O’s psycho-opera Stop the Virgens watch it now—heads will roll in that too.
