Creators Remix Roundup: Neon Indian, Spank Rock, And Jamie xx

Neon Indian goes celestial, industrial sissy bounce from Boys Noize and Spank Rock, and Lil Wayne meets Jamie xx. Plus Björk’s new music video for “Hollow.”

Our Creators are a talented and prolific bunch, and our inbox is always overflowing with alerts of new remixes and mashups from the incredible DJs and producers in our line-up. We just couldn't keep these fresh new tunes to ourselves because, after all, filesharing is caring. Here are our top picks from the past week.

Neon Indian: “Hex Girlfriend” (Twin Shadow remix)

The fuzzy synths in Neon Indian’s “Hex Girlfriend” wash upon you like sun pouring in through your bedroom window on a crisp winter morning. Brooklyn-based “B-movie pop” band Twin Shadow takes that groggy, waking-up-feeling one step further by serving up a track that incorporates electronic organ and violin underneath an explosion of celestial drums. It certainly makes us feel alright.

Spank Rock feat. Big Freedia: “Nasty” (SCNTST remix—Boys Noize re-fix)

It may just be the coffee, but it’s super hard to sit still while listening to this song. Apparently Alex Ridha of Boys Noize has been playing this refix during his DJ sets recently and we love how he filtered Spank Rock and Big Freedia‘s raunchy sissy bounce track through a screen of industrial haze. He also threw in a great suction/popping sound as an additional beat. You’re crazy if this doesn’t make you move.

Carlos Serrano: Lil Wayne and Jamie xx mash-up

San Diego mash-up artist Carlos Serrano took the churning beat from Jamie xx‘s “Running” off his collaboration album We’re New Here with the late Gil Scott-Heron, and combined it with Weezy‘s 2008 hit “A Milli.” The original’s a bit unlistenable, though we always like Lil Wayne’s distinctive drawl. The mashup makes it a lot less annoying to listen to, and the result’s actually pretty ill. Check out more of Serrano’s mash-ups on his Soundcloud.
