Creators Remix Roundup Week 4

Our Creators are a very talented and prolific bunch, and our inbox is always cluttered with alerts of new remixes and mashups from the incredible DJs and producers in our line-up. We just couldn't keep these fresh new tunes to ourselves because, after all, filesharing is caring. Here are our top five faves from the past week.

Death Set: “Yo David Chase! You P.O.V. Shot Me in the Head” (feat. Diplo)

Get wound up with this track from the Brooklyn-based electro-punk outfit the Death Set, off their upcoming album Michel Poiccard. The energetic track has got Diplo laying on the synth and production assistance from XXXChange. Given the nature of the chant-like chorus, “You P.O.V. Shot Me in the Head,” we’re wondering if the boys are just hardcore Sopranos fans or if they were alluding to a hardcore P.O.V. along the lines of their album art (above)?

Boys Noize: “Trooper” (Robert Hood remix)

The original version of this track opens up with the sounds of marching, beating drums, and the chanting of “Left, right, left.” The pace is almost too dark and fast to dance to, sounding more like a soundtrack for a Romain Gavras film than the typical crowd pleasers we’ve come to expect from Boys Noize. Robert Hood gives the song a total makeover by introducing new beats, layering on samples of an undulating female, and by taking the “Left, right, left” hook and transforming the track into almost an instructional (in a good way) on how to move.

Jazz Juice: “Detroit” (Laurent Garnier remix)

Laurent Garnier’s eight-minute remix is like auditory Valium (especially after the pace of that last track). It’s like waking up after the best sleep of your life, as it gently rocks you awake and transforms from soothing, ’80s-inspired synths to an electro dance party.

Parham Ebrahimi: “Az Oon Roozi Ke Rafti” (produced by DJ Mehdi)

Even if you don’t speak Persian, one can sense (with help from the spotty Google translation of his website bio) that Iranian musician Parham Ebrahimi’s lyrics deal with family, heartbreak, political turmoil, and sacrifice—cathartic art doesn’t need to be understood to be felt. French producer, DJ Mehdi has livened up the track, making it a surefire dance floor hit across the Middle East and beyond.

Mark Ronson & The Business Intl.: “Taste of a Samurai” (feat. Jarina de Marco)

So this track isn’t exactly a traditional remixm, but we felt it worthy of inclusion because not only is it a great track, but it was left off of the group’s debut album: Record Collection. Last week on his East Village Radio show Authentic S-hit, Mark announced the world premier of “Taste of a Samurai,” adding bits of vocal commentary throughout. So, technically that makes it a mash-up.
