Custom R2-D2 Plane Carries 'Star Wars' Cast to London

The above-the-line cast and crew of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a.k.a., the big ones—and J.J. Abrams—flew from the film's L.A. premiere to the London one in a jet artists painted to look like R2-D2. Also, R2-D2 was there, so there was a tiny R2-D2 inside a giant, mutated R2-D2 with wings, which is pretty neat. BB-8 was there, too, so it's like a kid and his cool uncle flying around in a plane decorated to look like his cool uncle.

Why is this important? Because waiting to see the new Star Wars movie has reached its final, unbearable home stretch—the part where reviewers and celebrities are going to premieres and life becomes a Flappy Bird clone where you're trying to avoid spoilers. The only way to satisfy both the urge to read everything about the franchise and keep the movie-watching experience pure is to begrudgingly follow the train of publicity stunts and late night talk shows leading up to December 18. Who really cares that a group of freshly A-list celebs mediocrely hummed the Star Wars theme song masked by Questlove and Jimmy Fallon's trained vocal chords?

Yet stuff like this scratches that itch of wanting Star Wars now, and some very creative people have gotten to express themselves thanks to the Disney gravy train. We get a Boeing-787 wearing one of the most beloved characters in the series like a Silence of the Lambs-style skin suit, with two more character-themes planes on the way. That's pretty cool, and if it's what will fill the void in my heart where Star Wars lives until Thursday night, then so be it.

Check out pictures of the R2-D2 jet, and the fancy celebrities inside it, below.
