Suave, minimalist purveyors and displayers of digital art, Electric Objects has just announced a plan to commission $100,000 in new digital artworks as part of their 2016 Art Club Fund. "That’s $100,000 for JPGs, GIFs, PNGs, MP4s and art websites," the startup says in the announcement. Through April 1, you (yes, you!) can get a chunk of that cash money by submitting your work to the Electric Objects Spring Open Call. This season's selections will focus on storytelling in new media.

From the Electric Objects site: "Storytelling is essential to nearly every art form. Whether it’s a song, a film, a painting, or a performance, we gravitate towards stories because they help us reflect upon the world around us or transport us to a new one. For this open call, we want you tell a story. How you tell the story is entirely up to you; it can be a series of vignettes, a continuous narrative that develops throughout the collection, or something else entirely."

When the Open Call closes, 30 artists will be selected to make five to six-piece series following the theme. Previous beneficiaries of the Art Club Fund include artists Thu Tran and Zolloc, a regular on The Creators Project. "I like to be open to surprises and let projects organically grow into whatever creature it wants to be," Tran tells The Creators Project. After being introduced to Electric Objects, Tran says she, "worked for a few weeks in their beautiful plant-filled studio space where they had an EO screen that would be playing some funny memes or video loops. I liked that the video screen was ambient and blended in as a decorative part of the room. It was also great having the screen right there in my studio to test out a wide variety videos and graphics. I thought more about the kind of images I'd want hanging in my home."

Zolloc was one of the first artists Electric Objects tapped for last year's Art Club Fund. "Before I moved to NYC they offered to let me work out of their studio on the collection. I ended up staying for two weeks. It was great," he tells us, adding that the medium of a pared-down, high quality screen is well-suited for his work. "They are directly funding art. There are no rules. I love it," he says. "They genuinely care about the art and the community. I get to experiment with things that wouldn't work on any other device. People get to enjoy the work at full quality."
