Coffee zombies and indecisive demons live in Shirley Dark's Tim Burtonesque sketches.

Shirly Dark's illustration of an undead lady in the process of being ripped in half, entrails and inner workings laid bare before the world, caught our eye not only for the attention to detail, but for the feeling embedded within the grotesquery. "I've been going through a lot lately," reads the caption. Even if you haven't at some point felt like they've got two giant fish hooks embedded in their head, pulling them in opposite directions, illustrations like the zombie drowning in coffee are near universal.

Dark's body of work goes beyond snapshots of feels translated into ghoulish visual metaphors. Her characters, from a giant zombie space whale smoking a skyscraper like a blunt, to a demon that looks fiery but is made from trees, feel like they're from a single twisted world, perhaps orbiting the same sun as one of Tim Burton's. Sometimes they're directly transposed from her dreams. With 90 posts and 194 followers, there's never been a better time to get regramming. Keep an eye on her work here.
