Evan Roth's Propulsion Paintings: Pretty Much The Best Homework Ever

Students at Eastern Michigan University get creative with a bunch of spraypaint.

In what just might be our favorite example of good natured teacher-student goofery since this guy, teacher, artist, Graffiti Research Labs co-founder, and James Powderly collaborator Evan Roth gave his Art and Hacking students a bunch of spray paint cans and assigned them to create “Propulsion Paintings”—hyper-messy sculptures powered by the pressure inside the aerosol cans.

The assignment comes alongside preparations for Roth’s own Welcome to Detroit exhibition at Eastern Michigan University, opening this Wednesday. Above, a compilation of work from Roth’s students. Below, Roth’s own Propulsion Paintings. No word yet on what the ozone layer thinks, but we have a feeling it’s not as stoked as we are.

I don’t know about you, but for once I’m actually jealous of someone else’s homework.
