Experience The World In Slow Motion With This Head-Mounted Device

The Decelerator Helmet from Lorenz Potthast turns you into some kind of time lord.

The Decelerator Helmet - A slow motion for Real Life from Lorenz Potthast on Vimeo.

Life moving too fast for you? Need an experimental piece of headwear that will allow you to see the world in slowmo? Then look no further than The Decelerator Helmet, from design student Lorenz Potthast, which might make you look like a member of Daft Punk, but it’ll also chill the world out, man.

Joining a growing line of avant-garde headwear that can alter reality—like the Hyper(reality) helmet or the Substitutional Reality system—this comes equipped with a camera attached to a computer which records what’s going on in the outside world then takes it down a notch for you. Like if you’d suddenly been injected with tranquilizers, it slows down the pace of life so you can witness it in a much more relaxed manner via a head-mounted display. Meanwhile an externally mounted screen shows those normal-paced freaks what they’re missing.

It comes in three handy modes too: auto-mode which automatically bullet-times your world going back to normal after a certain period, press-mode allows you to slow down time on a whim, and scroll-mode turns you into some kind of time lord as you exert control over the elapsing of the temporal realm. It also works as a kind of philosophical headspace, where you can reflect upon the nature of time and contemplate corporeality as your detached experience of the world turns you all chin-stroky. It’s a clear case of “SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!”
