Eyebeam MIXER: Past Futures [NYC Event]

It’s time yet again for Eyebeam’s quarterly showcase for audiovisual performance and interactive art.

Do you believe Earth is your home planet? Well, if you’re not sure, or insist that your being is from another galaxy or dimension, you might find solace and camaraderie at Eyebeam Art + Technology Center’s mixer this Saturday. Electronic jazz musician Sun Ra Arkestra (who prefers to believe his home planet is Saturn) will be headlining the event, along with Jeremy Bailey, Saturn Never Sleeps (feat. King Britt & Rucyl), and a DJ set by Laurel Halo to round out the evening.

Other immersive video, design, and fashion projects will be on view as part of the “back to the future” theme, channeling the dawn of the imagined internet—the internet that never was. Participating artists include Aaron Meyers, Fever Creative, Kaho Abe, Creator Mark Essen, Ryder Ripps, and Thunder Horse Video.

MIXER: Past Futures conjures the spirit of both early internet theories and visual style, suggesting an alternate version of our own current reality, reflecting what was and what could be.

Many of the artists in Saturday’s lineup are participating in Eyebeam’s acclaimed Fellowship program, which has helped incubate and launch the careers of some of the brightest minds in art & technology today. Creator James Powderly co-founded the Graffiti Research Lab with Evan Roth while both artists were fellows, upcoming Creator Taeyoon Choi is a current Fellow, while upcoming Creator Rashaad Newsome was a Resident in 2009. Their quarterly mixer series provides a unique opportunity to meet the current group of Fellows, see the products of their ongoing research, and experience some unique participatory artworks.

MIXER: Past Futures takes place at Eyebeam on Saturday, April 9th from 9 PM-2 AM. Get tickets here.
