Hipsters + Bikes + 8bit video games = Hipster City Cycle

A new mobile video game that lets you live out your dreams of becoming a bike messenger.

As if you needed any more proof that the whole “hipster” phenomenon has fully jumped the shark, here’s a new mobile video game that takes you on a bike race through Philadelphia decked out as a pixelated hipster bike messenger. The 8-bit style game has you cycling through the streets of Philly, narrowly avoiding cars, people, other bikers, and of course, pulling lots of sweet trackstands to a soundtrack of retro chiptunes. The game runs pretty true to life and any Philly natives will recognize many of the stores, streets and landmarks, and possibly even some of the characters, as a few colorful locals have been immortalized in the game. Hipster City Cycle is scheduled for release sometime in early winter and it will be available in the App Store for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. No word yet on whether there will be versions for other hipster cities, but if so, we’re pretty sure Williamsburg would be a natural contender.
