Peaches Christ Superstar: Would Jesus Wear Lamé?
Peaches’ rendition of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Sir Tim Rice’s rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar was so well-received during its March debut in Berlin and Hamburg, that the show, featuring Chilly Gonzales on piano, is coming stateside. Her North American tour kicks off with a sold out show this Friday, December 10th in Boston before moving through NYC, Chicago, LA, San Francisco, and Toronto.
Unlike the larger-than-life, high production musical, Peaches’ interpretation features no cast, no set, and no costumes (strictly speaking). She embodies the characters of Jesus, Mary Magdalene, and the disciples, focusing solely on the music which she describes as “timeless.”
“It will just be straight up singing the whole album. I just want for people to have a chance to enjoy the music very stripped down. And I don’t mean ‘stripped down’ in a Peaches [way]…don’t get any ideas,” she says in the video trailer above.
