Is Instagram Video Banksy's Newest Obsession?

We're not sure if this is Banksy or an impostor, but his Instagram videos have a lot of '80s hair metal.

Though Banksy has stayed quiet since his New York residency, his social media presence how slowly been expanding. The infamous street artist's Instagram has been, in the words of Trinidad James, straight flexin', including a variety of somewhat unexpected videos.

The Instagram account, @banksy, has been updated daily for the past few months, including animated renderings of some of the artist's more popular works, complemented by tunes like "Eye Of The Tiger" and "White Flag" by Dido. Most include curious mono-syllabic comments like "meh" or "rats," as well as a few simple hashtags like #streetart and #art.

While the account boasts over 100k followers and links to Banksy's website, something feels amiss about the elusive Brit's web presence (and it's not just the inclusion of '80s hair metal). During his New York residency, he updated his website daily with photos of his most recent work, but he used the Instagram account @banksyny at the time. We can't say for sure if this is Banksy's personal account, but it's certainly interesting. Maybe Banksy is experimenting with video now--or, more likely, maybe he's just having fun with the app and winking at his new followers?

The artist has not announced any upcoming exhibitions, residencies, or other projects, though some of his pieces flipped for huge price tags at various art auctions last week.

Until he uploads a selfie, as another mysterious, English art legend just did, we'll remain #skeptical if it's actually the most notorious street artist getting big into the app world. Hey, at least he doesn't over-kill things with excessive hashtags or unnecessary filters.
