'Kung Fury' Is the Ridiculous 80s Cop Movie Parody We've Always Wanted

You might need a lie down after watching David Sandberg's over-the-top 30-minute homage to maverick cop movies.

If you've been following its development (and its David Hasselhoff-starring music video) then you'll be pleased that the full-length Kung Fury, the ridiculously over-the-top action comedy directed by David Sandberg (aka Laser Unicorns), has arrived. It started life as a Kickstarter campaign back in 2013 and takes it's lead from maverick cop movies from the 1980s.

But this is no ordinary pastiche, because the cop in it is also a kung fu master and the plot involves him travelling back in time to take on a martial arts Hitler, with the help of machine gun-wielding vikings, a Norse god, and dinosaurs (gotta have dinosaurs) to help. It's the kind of absurdly grand vision the internet can't get enough of, so of course, it had to be real.

Not only did the 'net at-large help raise $630,000 to turn the film into a 30 minute short, but after being released on YouTube for free only yesterday, it's already clocked up over 10.5 million views.

Along with its layers of homage, from the synth soundtrack to nods, to Jean-Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris movies, it also showcases some great VFX (and even a cartoon section!), which were all done by Sandberg. At time of writing, there's also talk of it being made into a full-length feature.
