Magic Mirror Reflects The Colors Of Your Movements

Colors of Movement, from Brazilian designer Paul Barcelos, reflects people and their movements through the primary colors.

Whether or not we want to admit it, most of us are pretty vain creatures, so drawing the attention of passersby with a gigantic mirror on a busy street isn’t that hard to do, especially when the mirror warps and reflects your image through a prism of colors. In the project Colors of Movement, from designer Paulo Barcelos, your reflection is divided into three layers, shaded by primary colors to create a layered representation of your visage and movements. The piece was developed by Barcelos at the Italian office Fabrica, a research and communication center of the United Colors of Benetton brand, and was incorporated into an interactive shopping window, touring branches of the brand all around the world.

So far, the piece has traveled to Barcelona, Milan, Munich, and São Paulo, but if it hasn’t hit your home town, you can still interact with the piece via an online version, which allows you to create an animated GIF of your prismatic aura.

Barcelos likes to create open equations, works that make sense only when the viewer sees that there is a system that he can be part of. “It’s much more interesting when you understand what’s behind the magic circuits, processes and the works of several other people,” says the designer. The simple and intuitive interactivity seen in this piece and Barcelos’ other work, is clearly something that fascinates and moves the participants.
