Marina Abramović Takes a Spiritual Journey to Brazil [Exclusive Trailer]

Marco del Fiol and Casa Redonda take you on a hardcore journey into spirituality with upcoming documentary 'The Space in Between – Marina Abramović and Brazil.'

In The Space In Between – Marina Abramović and Brazil, pioneering performance artist Marina Abramović travels through the vibrant religious community of Vale do Amanhecer in Brasilia, the seemingly endless Abadianian vistas, and the breathtaking waterfalls of Chapada dos Veadeiros to experience sacred rituals and reveal her creative process amidst the wonders of Brazil. From visits with healers, sages, shamans, and sects, to intimate personal rituals and experiences within the natural landscape, the documentary follows Abramović through a profound introspective journey of memories, pain, and past experiences. Today, The Creators Project premieres the first official trailer for The Space In Between – Marina Abramović and Brazil, which is set to debut in Austin, Texas at the South by Southwest Film Festival.

A mixture between road movie and spiritual thriller, the film brings an unprecedented approach of the intimate creative process of one of the most important artists of our time. The Space In Between – Marina Abramović and Brazil is directed by Marco Del Fiol, who has spent the past 15 years documenting the works of Olafur Eliasson, Isaac Julien, and more. His films have exhibited in festivals at Museo Reina Sofia, the Centre Pompidou, and the Nederlands Fotomuseum, and are part of institutional collections including Israel's Center for Contemporary Art, the Hong Kong Arts Centre, and Le Plateau in France.

Part of what makes the film special is its production, which comes at the capable hands of Brazil's very own Casa Redonda Films. Previously, Casa Redonda worked with Abramović on Terra Comunal – Marina Abramović + MAI, the artist's first major foray into Brazil, which one of our writers (allegedly) fainted while experiencing back in 2015. Amongst Casa Redonda's artist-integrated projects are the Claro Curtas Festival (2009-2011), which focused on content for mobile, NETLABTV - New Ideas for TV Series (2013-2016), and TNT Curtas Festival - Short Film Award, in partnership with Turner Brazil (2015-2016).

The filmmakers note that The Space in Between – Marina Abramović and Brazil is the only foreign documentary selected for the Documentary Feature Competition of the South by Southwest Film Festival. The film debuts on March 13th.
