The stunning looking structure above and below is the Helix Bridge, which spans 280m across the Singapore river connecting Singapore’s Bayfront and Central Business Districts. It opened last year and features canopies of glass running along the inner spiral and four viewing platforms that provide breathtaking views. It’s made of special stainless steel and also functions as an outdoor gallery.At night it really comes alive, with computer-controlled LEDs lighting it up to highlight the double-helix structure. As a nod to its structural origins, there are pairs of colored letters—“c”, “g”, “a” and “t”—that represent the four bases of DNA—cytosine, guanine, adenine and thymine—which also light up at night in red and green. The bridge is the creative efforts of a collaboration between Australian architects Cox Group, engineers Arup, and Singapore-based Architects 61.
