Two years after dropping their self-titled debut album, the Athens-based "drone'n'roll" band MECHANIMAL is gearing up to release their second album, Secret Science. To whet fans' appetites, MECHANIMAL teamed up with audio and visual engineer H. Martis of Denial of Service for an album-titled music video. "Secret_Science" was produced by Inner Ear Records and premiered on Ghetto Blaster Magazine. The end result features four minutes of digitally-deconstructed images and rhythmic video synthesis, and hopes to illustrate, as MECHANIMAL explained to VICE earlier this year, a "portrait of the urban landscapes of the post-modern world and its inherent chaos, nihilism, unfulfilled desires, and the economic decadence surrounding this scenario."

The production process for "Secret_Science," like the band itself, was quite unique. For his filmed material, Martis depended almost entirely on an Xbox Kinect 360, which he then fed through the 3D image capture application, Brekel Kinect. For the remaining visuals, the engineer turned to a concoction of Meshlab, Vray for 3ds Max, Cebas thinkingParticles, Mettle FreeForm, and Trapcode Form. The pixelated oscillations of Martis's resultant filmscape blur the distinctions between life and code through, as the engineer himself describes it, "complexities of esoteric cyber microscopy via complex fractal formula explorations." In short, it confuses and disorients much in the same way as contemporary urban living.

MECHANIMAL set October 10th as their street date for Secret Science, although a limited edition was released on Cassette Store Day on September 27th. Enjoy MECHANIMAL and Martis's cerebral and trippy video below, check out VICE's in-depth interview with the band, and prepare yourself for more—these guys have only just gotten started.
