Octavi Navarro's latest pixel art landscape (above) is an ode to the B movie, that channels the likes of Plan 9 from Outer Space and Invasion of the Saucer Men. The children's book illustrator has been looking forward to making Visitors From Outer Space since last year, when he began publishing his bit-formed images of circus tents, spaceships, and world wars on his blog, Pixels Huh.

Navarro tells The Creators Project, "I'm a big fan of sci-fi movies and it's always fascinated me how this genre worked in the Golden Age of Hollywood, when filmmakers faced very low budgets because [of] the lack of involvement from the major studios." Visitors From Outer Space is inspired by the work of B-movie legend Ed Wood, as well as Tim Burton's 1994 comedy-drama biopic of the same name. A monochrome color palette, nuanced light saturation and general aesthetics—down to the retro-future robot and flying saucers suspended from clearly visible strings—make the jump from classic camp to NES chic in Navarro's new work.
