Mesmerizing GIFs Of MRI-Scanned Food And Flowers

If you don’t like eating your veg, the least you could do is watch them on Andy Ellison’s blog Inside Insides.

Think of MRI scans and you imagine hospitals and people lying on their backs, moving into the scanner like Ripley going into hypersleep. But it doesn’t always have to be this way. Mira Calix has used one before to make music and Andy Ellison, who works at a medical school in Boston, has been creating hypnotic GIFs from the calibration scans he does on vegetables, fruit, and plants.

Over on his blog Inside Insides, he ‘s been uploading animations of cacti, tomatoes, flowers, and a whole grocery store worth of stuff. The results vary, from looking like exploding constellations, to strange ethereal creatures that looks like they’re emerging from the deep ocean, to microscopic entities. He even manages to make Brussels sprouts look interesting.
