It's that time of year again, when the French city of Lyon goes digital. Last Wednesday, the Mirage Festival, a Dolus & Dolus initiative, began its annual tech-focused five-day celebration. Expanding on its content annually, both in terms of quantity and quality, the festival provided attendees with a wide range of programming that fulfilled its mission: to question the boundaries between art and technological innovation.

Debates, discussions, and workshops on one side, well-curated screenings, exhibitions, and performances on the other, all exploded the festival’s 4th edition theme, "Techno-fiction," deconstructing the contemporary, apocalyptic-yet-fictive human vs. machine collision. Renowned creators, technologists, and forward-thinkers teamed up to tackle this dystopian ideal, resulting in a cutting edge overview of the digital cultural landscape and investigating how innovative technologies can be used as both a creative tool—and a weapon for understanding.

Thus, the festival delighted curious art aficionados and industry heads alike by showcasing media art classics like Seismik by Herman Kolgen and Soft revolvers by Myriam Bleau alongside a bunch of never-seen-before works.

“Mirage Festival has commissioned and premiered new projects this year like the performance The Mirror and the Mask performed by Pierce Warnecke and Yair Glotman,” Jean-Emmanuel Rosnet, artistic director and co-founder of the festival tells The Creators Project. “Herman Kolgen has presented a new installation, H-Phase, where an organ played harmonically thanks to wind data, and Olivier Ratsi has presented a new installation at the Fine Art Museum from his Echolyse series, called Pêle-Mêle, produced by Tetro+A, a new creative partner of Mirage Festival,” he adds.

We asked the festival team to send us a few highlights—check out the images below to see what they came up with:
