Sasha Zabelina reimagines famous movie posters using stock iPhone emojis in her image series, Emoji Films. While studying at Miami Ad School in San Francisco, Zabelina developed a passion for studying film. Combining her art direction degree with her love for movies, the result is a constantly growing stream of iconic film posters as reimagined for the Emoticon Age.

Her friends used to mock her for not using emojis in texting conversations, which inspired a reflection on the ways in we use symbols and images to communicate emotions without using words. Zabelina tells The Creators Project, “I try not to blindly copy the posters but sometimes capture the essence of the film and use the emojis to show what the story is about, and try to make the posters visually pleasing. I only use the official emojis and the limitations of the emojis I can use actually inspires me.”

The soon-to-be graduating student first started posting the images on her personal Instagram account. Because of the positive reception her posters received, she decided to create a separate account for Emoji Films and produce a steady stream of new work.
