ONE DAY LEFT: Apply to New York's 100% Free Anti-Art School

BHQFU wants YOU!

If you're getting ready to go back to art school, and the idea of taking on more classes for the purely altruistic goal of garnering more knowledge, sans credit, sounds like straight-up crazy talk, well, chances are you're lucky enough to still be in art school. For the rest of us, the desire to keep learning—or, to supplement an education with a little more education—runs strong, but offers up few options that aren't prohibitively expensive, singlemindedly research-based, or grad school (which is both). Thankfully, the good folks at the Bruce High Quality Foundation have a time-honored solution, and you have a few more hours to apply to it:

Bruce High Quality Foundation Univeristy (BHQFU, or just "FU" to New Yorkers who know it) is a "learning experiment" also known as "New York’s freest art school" that, each semester, invites a who's who of global artists and educators to teach classes ranging from Creative Writing in Prose, to Sex Ed, to Chopped, Except That It's Art Chopped, a live art competition-slash-free-for-all in the vein of the beloved television show of its namesake. Oh, and everything is completely, 100% free.

This semester is divided into two sessions. Session 1 runs from September 8 through October 26, and includes classes like Liquid Poetry, taught by 21st century scribes Sophia La Fraga and Brian Droitcour, and Sculpture and Intimacy with rising star sculptor Elizabeth Jaeger. Session 2, which runs from October 27 through December 15, includes The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: Painting Critique with American Academy of Arts and Letters' John Koch Award-winning painter Nicole WittenbergHeart in Mouth: Performance and Sound, an "an experimental performance workshop for artists who dare, are scared to death, or are somewhere in-between, from all backgrounds and mediums" with performer and frontwoman Lara Allen, and Chopped, Except That It's Art Chopped with concrete comedian (and frequent VICE contributor) Sean J. Patrick Carney.

It should be noted that, as classes at BHQFU are free and awesome (I, myself *ahem* am an alumnus, and swear on it being the most-punk art school alternative since dropping out), classes fill up fast, meaning that not every applicant will be accepted. But you have a few more hours to try, and if you do get in, will be thanking us—and yourselves, most of all—in a month's time.
