This CGI Space Odyssey Is the Result of an Amazing Homework Assignment

Featuring explosions and space debris, this short could be one of our favorite homework assignments ever.

This article was originally published on June 6, 2014 but we think it still rocks!

MoGraph Mentor, one such program, has opened its digital doors to aspiring motionographers, providing hands-on training and career development and mentorship to anyone who has ever watched an animated title sequence and thought, "I want to make that."

Other Worlds Pending, the new "visual essay project" by MoGraph Mentor student David Urbinati is exactly the type of forward-thinking result we fully expect to see more of from the online school. Just shy of a minute-and-a-half, the computer-generated visual odyssey offers a glimpse into a low-poly galaxy replete with space cruisers, polygonal shamans, music by Creator Jon Hopkins, and more space debris than one could shake a phaser at. It's also a well-received window into a future wherein all motion graphics education could be done at home— just don't expect recess.
