Play It Again, Stan! This Interactive Piano, Stanley, Takes Song Requests Via Tweets

And he’s unlikely to tell you to eff-off either.

Introducing Stanley from DIGITAL KITCHEN on Vimeo.

“Sorry, I don’t take requests” We’ve all heard that said back to us, either by a DJ or musician, probably followed by “What did you just call me?”. It’s a disheartening experience (for both parties), especially when you’re at the emotional stage of drunkenness. But you can take heart in a machine, namely Stanley the interactive piano who’s quite happy to take requests and plenty of them.

How Stanley works

He was created by Digital KItchen for the Block Party festival taking place between 20 to 22 July at Capitol Hill in Seattle. To request a song all your have to do is tweet him @StanleyPiano and he’ll comply because he’s nice, unlike those anonymous, fictitious musicians who I mentioned at the start. And, if like me, there’s no way on earth you’ll be going to the Block Party festival because you live in another country, you can watch Stanley streamed online when the festival starts tomorrow.

@stanleypiano Can you play Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone”?

— Kevin Holmes (@stewart23rd) July 19, 2012

As you can see I’ve already requested a Bob Dylan track, so that’s His Bobness covered. Let’s hope he plays it, otherwise I’ll be bitterly disappointed and disillusioned.
