The Origin of Creatures from floriskaayk on Vimeo.Taking its inspiration from the biblical story of the Tower of Babel, this post-apocalyptic short, The Origin of Creatures from Floris Kaayk, is a dark, nuclear-winter tale of burnt out, rubble-infested cities and the mutated body parts that roam the streets like fleshy spiders. It racks up the tension by not having a word spoken (there might be lots of mutated limbs and the odd eyeball and ear, but no disembodied mouths), with the soundtrack being the scampering of the creatures making their way across the ruined metropolis to build their doomed tower. In amongst all this horror, it’s heartening to know that while all that remains of humanity is scattered body parts wandering a stricken earth, at least they’re collaborating.Collaborating to build a giant tower that reaches up to the sky to try and get enough light to reproduce, but this is a dystopian tale and it never works out for these poor little guys. It’s a Dali-esque dance set to the rhythm of scuttling limbs, disturbing yet compelling, leaving you to gawp as the strange narrative unfolds. There’s a making of below:[via Beyond the Beyond]@stewart23rd
