Psychedelic Visuals From Andrew Benson (aka Pixlpa)

The San Francisco-based artist serves up some more swarming visual soup.

We’ve featured the work of Andrew Benson a few times before—his collaborations with Weirdcore on real-time Kinect visuals for Aphex Twin and remixing Chuck D’s face, as well as his lucid and psychedelic generative animations, which make for a captivating experience, provided you don’t mind a sea of colors drowning your field of vision.

Now Benson’s back and dishing up some more of those hypnotic visuals, this time with a more glitchy effect and epileptic-inducing flashes that amount to an intense display of clashing forms and patterns, riddled with dynamic colors that dance before your eyes. Above is Radical Eye and below is To Be RGB For You, which comes with the following quote from American art critic Rosalind Krauss on Benson’s Vimeo page:

“In distinction to this, the feedback coil of video seems to be the instrument of a double repression: for through it consciousness of temporality and of separation between subject and object are simultaneously submerged. The result of this submergence is… a kind of weightless fall through the suspended space of narcissism.” – Rosalind Krauss, 1976

Yup. That about sums it up.
