[Video Premiere] Queens Of The Stone Age Unveil A Ghostly, Interactive World For "The Vampyre Of Time And Memory"

The beautiful and surreal video is here in its entirety.

We've been sleeping with a garlic clove under our pillow since The Creators Project premiered the trailer for Queens Of The Stone Age's interactive music video "The Vampyre Of Time And Memory."

Now, however, it's time to get a little more superstitious. The full interactive video, directed by Kii Arens and Jason Trucco, designed and developed by firm, Darknet, and produced by The Creators Project, is now available in its entirety. Grab a crucifix, some silver bullets, and maybe a change of pants. You can explore the hauntingly inventive project at vampyreoftimeandmemory.com and watch the Director's Cut above.

There are many interactive videos floating around on the web, but few of them embody the spirit of a band as fully as this one. Kii Arens and Jason Trucco have created a cutting-edge world using HTML5 that is utterly Queens of The Stone Age.

The directors nod to why this piece is a forward-thinking when they told The Creators Project, "All art is technology, technology that shares an experience or an idea. 'Vampyre' uses all the tools available to us today to share a meaningful common experience."

"The Vampyre Of Time And Memory" is a portal into the rock group's psyche, but we want to take a step back and highlight why this could be the most cumulative video it has released yet.

First off, Kii Arens, is a frequent collaborator with the Queens and has made many of the group's tour posters. His work on this video may be a meta-reference itself, as he's worked with the band since its early days.

But imagery in this video also recalls tropes from the band's past art and ephemera. The vampyres, ghosts, ghouls, and general devilry have been a consistent (and eye-catching) theme throughout the group's entire career:

…Like Clockwork has been described as both a "codeine cabaret" and a "satanic cabaret," and this video takes all the band's interests in dark arts, black magic, and the Occult and compiles it into a virtual world that we can digest in a creepy gulp.

We can't forget, frontman Josh Homme supposedly died (for a few minutes) during a botched surgery in 2011 before his heart started beating again. Call it a top-shelf rock myth, but if anyone knows about the dark arts, it must be him.

To enhance the mystique, the video also sports:

Ghostly doubles

Religous Imagery With An Occultist Twist

And some grim characters

There are lugubrious vibes present throughout. It's worth mentioning that religious themes (especially those of the Occult) have popped up in the band's past, from lyrics like "Every face, it's your eyes I can see/I plead, I pray through each night and day/Our embrace is only a dream" in 2005's "This Lullaby" to the Christocaster guitar Homme had specially built.

The best self-reference in "The Vampyre of Time And Memory," however, is when the group is surrounded by an excess of dead, stuffed creatures. In 2002, the band released a video for "No One Knows," where the musicians get pummeled and eventually taxidermied by a deer.

The group was gaining steam then. But now, it's as if the tables have turned: the Queens are on top of the rock game, and now they dictate the fate of the creatures around them.

Explore the interactive video, and stay tuned for a behind the scenes look at how the insane project was created.

Finally, more reason to get pumped: Queens Of The Stone Age have submitted to popular demand and extended the life of the …Like Clockwork global touring juggernaut yet again:
