Rainbow Cruisers and Ice Cream-Hued Road Bikes Hit LA

These painted bikes are high art.

Bikes are the canvas in a one-of-a-kind art installation known as #UnchainMe by Martone Cycling Co. and Santa Monica-based retailer Ron Robinson. The installation which was presented in May of this year combines the work of the company's designer Lorenzo Martone, Robinson, and four Los Angeles artists Sket One, ToMo, Fallen Fruit, and Zachary Crane. This collaboration heralds future artistic enterprises from the bike company, which will aggregate into Martone's newly launched "M – Art – One" series.

Each of the four artists received a white Martone bike and were told to work their magic. The outcome? Ranging from one bike drenched in bubble gum pink to a rainbow fruit basket. Designer Martone adds, “The bikes are, at first, an un-expected canvas but immediately reinforce Martone Cyclings message that your bike should be not only functional, but beautiful and reflective of your lifestyle.”

Each of the artist-designed bikes will be displayed at Robinson's store in Santa Monica and will set you back a hefty $3,000- $8,000. A fifth bike will be displayed and available for purchase to the public at Robinson’s Melrose Avenue Store.
