Renee French's style even earned her a gig drawing an 'Adventure Time' spinoff.

An almost indestructable microscopic creature called the tardigrade, a.k.a., "water bear," has garnered fascination from scientists and internet explorers for years. Motherboard calls them "the weirdest animal on the planet (and beyond)." To the average eye, they look like something that might consume your flesh from within, or grow to 50' in height and terrorize Tokyo, but illustrator Renee French envisions the terrifying and mysterious creatures as downright cute.

The tardigrade isn't alone in this treatment. Big-eyed alien chicks, insects, river monsters, and a dog with Donald Trump hair evoke the cocktail of spine tingles and belly giggles fans of Tim Burton movies or Japanese kimo-kawaii artwork know and love. French makes the sensation all her own witch charming/revolting sketches on her Instagram, and it's no surprise that she was also enlisted to draw scenes for the Adventure Time book, Marcy's Super Secret Scrapbook. Her style is ideal for the timeless teenage vampire with a good heart, a strong right hook, and a mind full of daddy issues.
