When tragedy strikes, a father and son struggle to preserve their family unit by seeking out the higher power that governs their world. Battery Life is a stop-motion short that takes place in a desolate and severe robot universe where life is contingent upon a cryptic energy source referred to only as "the current."

With a budget of only $5,000, the Battery Life team had to develop an immersive world through crafty set design and camera work. In a behind-the-scenes video, the film’s writer and director Justin Nixon says, “I am very excited about the emotion that we've been able to evoke with robots… only their eyes move, and their eyebrows, they’re really expressionless, but we’ve managed to really pull out the emotion in scenes.”

The short is described as a sort-of debut for the production team that made it, a demonstration of what they are capable of and interested in. The video’s description reads, “Battery Life is our introduction. A film to say, ‘Here we are.’ We are a team of people willing and able to work hard for something we believe in, something we think is really cool. And we did just that.”

We’re certainly looking forward to what they come up with next. Watch Battery Life below:
