While snipping segments from popular movie or TV shows to make a bite-sized chunks of standalone entertainment has become routine for many internet denizens, animator Alex Belancourt takes the practice to a whole new level with his new Tumblr, Cinimated. With source material as diverse as Seinfeld, The Shining, and Star Wars, Belancourt creates rotoscoped GIFs that rewrites live-action cinema in inventive pen-and-ink stylings.

"It was while watching Seinfeld that the idea for cinimated crossed my mind," he reveals in the description for Cinimated's inaugural post, a GIF of Kramer dancing as Jerry and Elaine sit grim-faced on the couch. Belancourt used a combination of Adobe CC, Photoshop, Flash, After Effects, and Premiere Pro to "cinimate" the scene, and has continued to do so since beginning the project on December 12th. As the series grows, Belancourt's selection and tone have varied greatly, depicting comedic extensions of already-hilarious moments like in Blazing Saddles, and genderswapping horrific ones like The Shining.
