Sculptor Cédric Verdure Turns Ordinary Wire Into Haunting Installations

Walking in a terrifying winter wonderland.
Nuit Blanche 2012

Using little more than recycled wire and a spotlight, French artist Cédric Verdure is able to create fantastic and ghostly 3D models that haunt the imagination. Residing in Nantes, the self-taught sculptor is inspired to work by the sheer act of artistic expression: "To create dream, to immortalize memories, to wake sensations, this is why I work, the sculpture is a way to express myself and to express that [which] takes up the space in the us and around us" Vendure explains.

After taking a few architecture courses, Vendure discovered computer graphics, and the art of 3D rendered models. Starting out in wood and other standard material, Vendure decided wire was the perfect and most durable material for outdoor installations. The results are something between a snow angel and The Nightmare Before Christmas:
