See London Age Before Your Eyes With Overlapping Film From The '20s And Today

Simon Smith time-warps the city again with "Wonderful London 1924 & 2014."

In January, The Creators Project shared a time-warping video by filmmaker Simon Smith that juxtaposed London in 1927 with the London of today, fittingly called London in 1927 & 2013. Using footage from early cinematography pioneer Claude Friese Greene's The Open Road as inspiraiton, Smith made a "personal study" that placed many of Greene's city shots alongside their modern equivalent. The present day director has followed-up with Wonderful London 1924 & 2014, a sequel of sorts that allows us an even greater time-space vantage into the metropolis.

In 1924, Harry B. Parkinson and Frank Miller documented the British series in a handful of shorts called Wonderful London. "Over the last few months," explains Smith, "I have stood in their foot-steps, recapturing their shots exactly, and have blended the two together creating a window through time."

The new video includes new and old shots of Regent's Canal, Fleet Street, St. Paul's Cathedral, and other tourism-friendly UK classics. And, like in Smith's first video piece, there are Barclay's bikes abound. See some stills from the video below, and check out the whole thing at the bottom:
