Skrillex Unveils Interactive Site for "Doompy Poomp"

Chop and GIF the latest video from Skrillex and Fleur & Manu.

Earlier this month, we premiered the video for Skrillex's unclassifiable song "Doompy Poomp." Directed by Fleur & Manu and produced in conjunction with The Creators Project, the video features a mulleted wastrel's successive attempts to secure a bank loan, with each attempt becoming more surreal and humiliating as the day continues to repeat itself.

Now, Skrillex and Fleur & Manu expand on this Groundhog Day-esque vision by inviting fans to take a seat in the director's chair with a “Mashup” function on the video's new interactive site, digitally produced by UNIT9 Berlin. When viewers press QWERTY keys, instead of simply watching the video, they can re-arrange the time-looped clips into their own creations, turning the virtually endless arrangement of trippy, looping animations into personal directors' cuts. Users can then record them as GIFs and share them via text message and Giphy.

“The whole idea behind the microsite was that this was not so much of a Skrillex song or a music video as it is a collaboration between myself and Fleur & Manu,” Skrillex told The Creators Project. “We wanted to present it in its own little world because it's so strange and fun.”

“The microsite is so interactive—you can remix the video and and you can create your own GIFs out of the little scenes,” he added. “Every little person, every little character in this music video is such a memorable character and that's such a cool component.”

But, users beware: don't get lost in an infinite loop. Then again, that may be exactly what diehard Skrillex fans want.
